Leeds United announce loan arrival of Facundo Buonanotte as first January signing

Leeds United have officially confirmed the loan signing of Facundo Buonanotte from Brighton & Hove Albion until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old is Daniel Farke’s first addition of the January transfer window after Brighton ended his loan spell at Chelsea. Buonanotte, who will wear the number 40 shirt, had been close to joining Leeds last summer before Chelsea moved in late to secure his services.
The Argentine attacking midfielder, who has earned two senior international caps, actively pushed for the switch to Elland Road after being limited to just 45 minutes of Premier League football during his time at Chelsea.
In total, Buonanotte featured for 518 minutes across all competitions, including three Champions League appearances and four domestic cup outings. His involvement in the FA Cup means he is cup-tied for the remainder of the competition.

Confirming the move, Leeds United said in a statement:
“Leeds United are delighted to announce the arrival of Facundo Buonanotte on a loan deal until the end of the 2025/26 Premier League campaign.
“The left-footed 21-year-old offers versatility across the attacking line, capable of operating centrally behind the striker, on either wing, dropping deeper when required, and contributing from set-pieces.
“Everyone at Leeds United would like to welcome Facundo to the club and we look forward to seeing him in action for Daniel Farke’s side.”

Speaking ahead of the window’s conclusion, Farke suggested further business is possible but limited. “I don’t expect six players to come in and six to go out,” he said. “There may be room for one, two, maybe three additions, but I would rule out anything more than that.”
Leeds are expected to focus primarily on attacking reinforcements this month, with Buonanotte’s arrival reflecting that approach. Due to ongoing PSR constraints, the club is likely to rely on loan deals unless funds are generated through player departures. Jack Harrison is expected to join Fiorentina, though that move is currently set to be a loan with an option to buy.
