West Ham’s interest in Cresswell has been ongoing for several months, with many expecting the club to revive their pursuit of the Toulouse defender during January. However, developments in France suggest that move may not materialise.
According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Toulouse anticipate that Cresswell will remain at the club for the rest of the window, despite strong interest from elsewhere. Wolfsburg have been actively trying to sign the 23-year-old and have reportedly submitted a bid of around £17.3 million, but even that has not been enough to convince Toulouse to sell.
West Ham are once again mentioned as admirers of the defender, but time is running out.
It may now be wise for the Hammers to look beyond Cresswell. He would undoubtedly suit West Ham’s current needs and, at his age, would also represent strong resale potential—an important factor under PSR regulations.
That said, the situation is becoming urgent. Defensive frailties continue to cost West Ham dearly, and failure to address them could leave the club in serious relegation trouble.
Nuno has already confirmed that West Ham are actively seeking additions this month. If at least one of those arrivals is not a defender, the club risks sleepwalking towards a return to the Championship.
