The 26-year-old left-back has caught the eye with his performances in Serie A this season, attracting interest from several clubs across Europe. Both Celtic and Sunderland are understood to be monitoring Gallo closely as they look to strengthen their options in wide defensive areas.
Gallo has been a key figure for Lecce, racking up 175 appearances in all competitions, with one goal and 10 assists to his name.
Sunderland search for Masuaku replacement
Sunderland are in the market for a new left-back after allowing Arthur Masuaku to leave on loan until the end of the season, with the experienced defender joining French side Lens.
Head coach Régis Le Bris is now short of cover on the left flank, with Reinildo Mandava establishing himself as the club’s first-choice option in that role this campaign.
Further changes to the squad could still occur before the January transfer window closes, following Dan Neil’s departure on loan. Sunderland’s recent form may also influence their recruitment plans, having managed just one win in their last seven Premier League matches, including a 3-1 defeat away to West Ham.
That run has seen the Black Cats slip to 11th in the table after a strong start to the season, though they remain 13 points clear of the relegation zone with 15 games remaining.
Celtic seek cover for Tierney
Celtic, meanwhile, could be busy in the final days of the window as manager Martin O’Neill looks to add depth at left-back behind Kieran Tierney.
Marcelo Saracchi’s loan spell has been hampered by injuries, leaving Tierney as the only recognised option in the position. Saracchi, who arrived on loan from Boca Juniors in the summer, has featured just eight times in the Scottish Premiership this season.
Tierney’s own history with injuries has raised concerns over his availability for the remainder of the campaign, prompting Celtic to consider reinforcements.
The Hoops have already brought in right-back Julian Araujo on loan from Bournemouth earlier in the window to cover for the injured Alistair Johnston, and Gallo could now emerge as their next defensive target.
