Everton remain determined in their pursuit of Brooke Norton-Cuffy, with advanced discussions now taking place over a potential move.

Everton remain firmly in the hunt for Genoa right-back Brooke Norton-Cuffy as the January transfer window enters its final stages.

The Toffees have been heavily linked with the 21-year-old, with David Moyes eager to reinforce his defensive options on the right side. Everton are understood to be aware of Genoa’s stance, with the Serie A club prepared to sanction a loan move worth £4 million, including a £13 million option to buy.

However, competition for Norton-Cuffy’s signature is intensifying.
Inter Milan and Juventus have both emerged as serious contenders, with Fabrizio Romano reporting on 29 January that Inter are in advanced negotiations to sign the former Arsenal prospect on a permanent deal. Despite that, Gianluca Di Marzio has suggested Juventus are still pushing hard, while Everton have not dropped out of the race and remain hopeful of a late breakthrough.

Everton’s interest is driven by a clear need at right-back. Jake O’Brien is more naturally suited to a central defensive role and lacks the attacking thrust usually expected from a full-back. Meanwhile, Seamus Coleman and Nathan Patterson have struggled with injuries, making it difficult for Moyes to rely on them consistently. A new arrival would allow Coleman to return to his preferred role while adding much-needed depth and balance to the squad.

Norton-Cuffy’s profile fits Everton’s requirements well. He is well acquainted with English football after progressing through Arsenal’s youth system and was part of Lee Carsley’s England Under-21 side that lifted the European Championship. His performances at that tournament enhanced his reputation, and he has continued to develop in Serie A this season.

The young defender has made 20 appearances for Genoa so far, contributing one goal and one assist. Surrounded by stronger attacking options at Everton, his creative output could improve further. Crucially, he would also qualify as a homegrown player, meaning he would not take up a foreign squad place.

If Everton can move ahead of their Italian rivals to secure Norton-Cuffy’s signature, it could prove to be a shrewd piece of business—one that strengthens Moyes’ squad and boosts their push toward European qualification.
