However, ahead of the encounter, the Premier League have confirmed an appointment that may raise a few eyebrows on the blue half of Merseyside.
Andy Madley has been named as the referee for Tuesday’s fixture. He will be assisted by Mark Scholes and Craig Taylor, with Sam Barrott acting as fourth official. Michael Salisbury will oversee VAR duties, supported by assistant VAR Lee Betts.
Madley’s appointment could concern Moyes, given his involvement in a controversial moment during Everton’s 2-2 draw with Manchester United in February 2025. On that occasion, Everton were incensed after being denied a late penalty. Ashley Young appeared to be fouled in the box by Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt, and although Madley initially pointed to the spot, he overturned the decision after reviewing the incident on the pitchside monitor.
Everton’s record under Madley is evenly balanced, with the Toffees winning as many matches as they have lost when he has taken charge.
Notably, across his 21 Everton fixtures, Madley has not awarded a single red card or penalty. He has, however, handed out 31 yellow cards — an average of 1.4 per game — suggesting he generally prefers to keep his cards in his pocket and allow play to flow.
That approach may not necessarily disadvantage Everton, particularly at home, where they often thrive on a combative edge in midfield and physical battles across the pitch.
